We are committed to sustainable disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, safeguarding communities from environmental threats.
At PACE Nepal, our commitment is to establish equitable societies and promote cultures of peace without discrimination in the Karnali region. Since 2006, we have been working on need-based action-oriented multi-disciplinary areas to empower marginalized communities and enhance local participation in development. Our focus includes sustainable disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation initiatives, along with advocating for inclusive and gender-responsive practices. We aim to build community resilience, improve livelihoods, and protect human rights, while fostering partnerships and collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders. Our vision is to create lasting positive change, where vulnerable communities thrive in harmony with their environment, leading to a safer and more sustainable future for all.
Our history
As the 2nd prize winner of the Adaptation at Scale Award, funded by UK Aid, PACE Nepal has been recognized for its innovative contributions to improve the capacity of vulnerable communities in Nepal to adapt to climate change impacts. The organization has implemented various projects, such as “Adapting to Climate Induced Threats to Food Production and Food Security” in the Karnali region, funded by the Adaptation Fund and UN World Food Program, and “Promoting Inclusive Safe and Quality Basic Education (AADHAAR Project),” among others.
Our other successful projects include the Climate Resiliencies WASH Polite Project, WASH and Resiliencies, COVID-19 Response & Recovery funded by Plan International Nepal, and “Urban Sanitation and Hygiene for Health and Development (USHHD)” funded by SNV Netherlands Development Organization. We have extensive experience in working on INFODRRI-CCA and Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives in Jumla and Mugu districts from 2017 to December 2023. Our focus has been on enhancing the capacities of local communities to identify and implement preventive and mitigation measures, reducing the risks of earthquakes and climate-induced hazards.
Additionally, we have undertaken projects aimed at improving food production and livelihood options for target communities, supported by Caritas Germany from 2012 to 2016. Notably, some of our other projects include the Integrated Project for Food Security Disaster Prevention and Peace Building in the Jumla and Mugu districts, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Caritas Germany, and Caritas Nepal, as well as the Women Health Program (WHP) funded by Population Services International (PSI) Nepal, Local Governance Community Development Project (LGCDP) funded by the Ministry of Nepal Local Development through the District Development Committee (DDC, Jumla), Western Uplands Poverty Alleviation Project (WUPAP), Woman Empowerment Project (WEP) funded by Social Work Institute (SWI), and various initiatives aimed at strengthening democratization and inclusion processes, funded by UNDP/PIN-Nepal. Our commitment to supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) is evident through projects like the Support Program for Income Generating Activities for IDPs funded by Caritas Nepal and the IDP Return program supported by IRC. These are just some examples of the projects conducted by PACE Nepal, reflecting our dedication to promoting resilience, inclusivity, and sustainable development in the region.
With extensive experience in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience initiatives, PACE Nepal has focused on empowering local communities to identify and implement preventive and mitigation measures against earthquakes and climate-induced hazards. Collaborating with various partners and donors, including Caritas Germany, Population Services International, and UNDP, the organization has successfully supported improved food production, livelihood options, and sanitation and hygiene practices for target communities. PACE Nepal’s commitment to advocating and raising awareness on pressing issues has been further strengthened through its active involvement in several formal and informal public networks, contributing to positive change in the region.

Mission
PACE-NEPAL strives to enable Karnali people to claim and exercise their rights for poverty reduction and improved livelihoods through education, organization development, research, policy advocacy and careful resource mobilization.
