Man Bahadur Rokaya, from Ward No. 2 of Tila Municipality, Lihi, achieved a remarkable feat by yielding one hundred kilograms of wheat from a mere 10 kg of seeds. The substantial wheat production ensued following the cultivation of improved seeds using the LAYN technique, prompting groups and communities to adopt this method for planting enhanced wheat varieties. Consequently, the community enthusiastically embraced the LAYN technique for their farming endeavors.

In the initial year, Mun Bahadur Rokaya sowed an improved variety of wheat seeds in his 1 hal (approximately 2.5 acres) field utilizing the LAYN technique, prompted by the guidance of PACE Nepal’s social mobilizer who introduced him to the innovative approach. Despite initial reservations expressed by Rokaya and his spouse, who perceived their land as too thin and barren, their concerns were allayed through group discussions and suggestions. Gradually, the wheat crops began to flourish, surpassing all expectations. A comparative analysis between traditional and modern farming methods revealed a stark contrast: while cultivating 10 kg of local wheat typically yielded around 30-40 kg, the adoption of improved seeds and the LAYN technique resulted in a fourfold increase in production. Rokaya expressed his gratitude to Caritas Nepal and Pace Nepal for sharing their insights, providing knowledge and skills, and empowering the community through capacity building.
